The gently rolling Belle Terre vineyard, with well-drained, gravelly and sandy loam soils produces beautiful Chardonnay fruit that has been a mainstay at Chateau St. Jean since 1975. The newest vintage opens with aromas of pineapple upside down cake accented with vanilla and baking spices. Our 2021 Patrick’s Vineyard Chardonnay has a golden-amber hue with ripe pear, pineapple core and movie popcorn on the nose. The mouthfeel is round and full, expressing notes of pear, apple pie fillling, butterscotch and marzipan.

The 2022 vintage was another warm and fast-paced year. Warm temperatures continued into summer setting the stage for full ripening, fresh acidity and beautifully balanced fruit. Our 2022 Estate Chardonnay is creamy, rich and elegant with complex aromas and flavors of baked bread, pear, hazelnut, and toasted marshmallow. This is an age-worthy wine of exceptional quality known for its full mouthfeel and exquisite long finish.

Our Reserve Chardonnay blends the most standout barrels from our different single vineyard programs for an expression of Sonoma County. 18 months aging in 50% new French oak adds hazelnut and crème brulée characters to notes of ripe yellow apple and spiced pear.

The 2021 Bar Lazy S Ranch Chardonnay opens with beautiful aromas of fresh lemon curd, confectionery crème brûlée, and sweet caramelized brown sugar. On the palate, bright acidity, toasted graham cracker, candied almonds, and vanilla bean flavors lead to a crème caramel finish.

The 2021 Founder's Block reflects 100% native yeast and is unfined and unfiltered. This “hands off” approach allows the grapes and vines to shine. After 15 months in 92% new French oak, the Founder’s Block Chardonnay exhibits a creamy richness, marked by ripe pear, baked apple, and baking spices, producing rounded layers and texture.

Our 2022 Reserve Russian River Valley Chardonnay is rich and expressive. Upon opening, mouthwatering aromas of white peach, butterscotch, and waffle cone are present. The palate is rich and round with bright fruit flavors, caramel notes, and hints of oak lingering on the finish.

This Chardonnay delights with aromas of citrus, pear, vanilla, graham cracker and buttercream perfectly balanced by vibrant, rich flavors of baked apple, apricot, cinnamon and hazelnut. Lingering creamy and toasted oak notes round out the finish.

This wine is especially unique as we worked with Proprietor Carol Ann Foley to create her “perfect” Chardonnay – a fresh, round, fruit-forward, and balanced, yet lighter style with notes of Fuji apple, stone fruit, citrus zest and a slight mineralty. This wonderfully complex Sonoma Coast Chardonnay has aromatics of lemon curd, baking spices, wet river rock and a hint of cedar. In the mouth, the wine is moderate weight but packs extraordinary depth of flavor ripe with Asian pear, Golden Delicious apple and a hint of minerality. This round yet delicate wine finishes with balanced acidity and a dry, clean finish.

This wine showcases crisp lemon citrus aromatics with an impression of limestone minerality. The 2020 Zoula Nunn Chardonnay is a rich, opulent wine.
