Sebastiani Dolcino Rosso (NV)
The nose is wild, spicy, fruity, gamy and meaty. The palate is rich, luscious and packed with black fruits. While perhaps less floral than past iterations, our latest bottling of Dolcino Rosso is incredibly rich, chewy and sensuous.
We leaned heavily on Petite Sirah for this new bottling of Dolcino Rosso to ensure a deep, dark color, dense fruit and underlying structure. The addition of Syrah, Merlot and Sangiovese contributed bright fruit and additional complexity. After harvest the grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. All of the individual lots were vinified and aged separately until the final lot was determined. Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks.
48% Petite Sirah, 19% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 8% Sangiovese, 5% White Grape Concentrate, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Zinfandel, 1% Barbera
Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks
To deliver fresh grapy flavors, soft tannins and complexity, Dolcino Rosso is always a blend of multiple vintages. This bottling features 18% of 2009, 19% of 2008, 61% of 2007 and 2% of 2006.
Much of the fruit for this bottling came from our estate Marcucchi Vineyard in Carneros just north of San Pablo Bay near the small town of Schellville. Here, the sandy, alluvial soils provide excellent drainage while temperatures are moderated by the morning and evening fog and strong winds that blanket the region. The latest version of our Dolcino Rosso offers a slightly different blend than past bottlings. The primary component is Petite Sirah with additions of Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese to the final blend.
