2019 Sebastiani Chardonnay, Sonoma County
Upon opening, delightful aromas of fresh Fuji apple, nectarine and buttered toast fill the nose. This well-balanced Chardonnay is rich with flavors of juicy Asian pear, baked peaches, zesty citrus and toasted oak. Notes of butterscotch linger on the smooth finish. — Mark Beaman, Winemaker
60% stainless steel tank fermented, 40% barrel fermented and aged for 18 months in 40% new French oak
The fruit was hand harvested and delivered to the winery in the cool, early hours. The grapes were sent direct to press with a gentle cycle to extract the best cuts of the juice. After two days of settling, the wine was transferred to barrels for primary and malolactic fermentations. The wine was sur lie aged with lees stirring every two weeks to enhance the aromatics, texture and flavors. After 18 months of aging in French oak (100% new), the wine was bottled on August 18, 2020.
For more than four decades, Sonoma County has been one of the premier regions in California for Chardonnay. Our multiplicity of climates and soils provide a broad range of sites perfectly suited for this noble grape. Our 2019 Sonoma County Chardonnay is made entirely from the cool, foggy Carneros region, which is ideal for full bodied well-structured Chardonnay.
