On the palate, bold tannins are balanced with concentrated flavors, bright acid and savory notes. Well structured and full bodied, our Cabernet Sauvignon is approachable now, but will age beautifully over the next 5-10 years.

Our Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is a wonderful expression of the classic Bordeaux varietal. Upon opening, striking aromas of black cherry and tobacco fill the nose and provide a gateway to the sophisticated palate. The palate is well balanced with succulent acidity, with flavors of fresh wild berries and subtle savory notes. Bold, round tannins and notes of toasted vanilla from the oak aging linger on the elegant finish.

Production Notes

The Foley Johnson 2019 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon comes from our own estate vineyards in the heart of Rutherford, comprised of thicker and heavier adobe soils with small amounts of gravel which are perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. The ideal growing conditions in the vineyard allow our Bordeaux varietals to reach full maturity on the vine without taking on the green, leafy taste of under-ripe fruit. The grapes were all harvested between August and September 2019. After 26 months in 40% new French, American and Hungarian oak, the wine was bottled on January 4, 2022.

Vineyard Notes

The 2019 vintage was truly remarkable. With Mother Nature’s support, the growing season provided fantastic grape growing conditions. Early warm summer days allowed the grapes to acclimate and develop superior flavor profiles. A cooler fall with a few sporadic heat spikes helped achieve even ripening resulting in robust and full flavors.
