2019 Firestone Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay, Santa Ynez Valley
This Chardonnay is bright and refreshing with aromas of pear, apple and citrus blossom. Additional citrus characters carry through on the palate, with hints of freshly buttered toast on the finish.
2019 had a robust amount of rain during the winter, ending Santa Barbara County's drought. We had early bud break with a mild spring and summer. Our first pick was September 11th. There was a short heat spike in early September which lasted about one week, then we were back to consistent, mild weather, allowing us to pick each block at the optimal time. Harvest was completed by November 11th.
Food Pairing Notes
Pair this wine with richer seafood like salmon, shrimp, cashew crusted scallops, clam chowder or Bisque. Rich risotto or cream-based soups are ideal pairings in cooler months.

The grapes for this wine come from 9 acres on our estate in Santa Ynez Valley. Situated at 1,000-foot elevation, this west facing, gently sloping vineyard is comprised of gravely, sandy loam soil from sedimentary oceanic rocks containing limestone and shale, ideal soil for growing our Chardonnay because of its permeable qualities. During the growing season, the fog sits right on top of our vineyards, creating desirable, cool foggy morning weather, with diurnal temperature swings of 50 degrees.
