6 months barrel age in 41% new French oak.
February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat created near-ideal conditions for winemakers to allow their fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels. The wine was 100% barrel fermented, with 83% in 60-gallon French oak barrels, 17% in 500L French oak barrels. Weekly bâtonnage for five months adds complexity and length. 5% of the blend completed malolactic fermentation.
100% Firetree Vineyard. Steep 30- to 50-degree slopes of sandstone and shale with the San Pablo Bay’s cooling influence, make our Firetree vineyard a classic site for Chardonnay, and showcases Carneros at its best.
