2018 Sebastiani Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley
On the nose, notes of dark plum and blackberry jam are prominent with undertones of black pepper and toasted oak. The palate is full flavored with well coated tannins and flavors of ripe fig, cassis and a nice backbone of vanilla and clove.
While approachable now, this wine will age nicely for three to five years.
Dry Creek Valley
21 months in American and French oak barrels (55% new)
The 2018 growing season was one of the mildest and smoothest in recent memory. Mild spring weather led to good fruit set in most varietals and moderate weather throughout the year made for ideal growing conditions. There were no major heat spikes, which gave us longer hang-time and great ripening on the vine. While a fairly long harvest, the 2018 crop delivered fruit with complex flavors and was of excellent quality. After harvest, the fruit was cold soaked to enhance the color and flavor while avoiding harsh tannins. The individual lots were racked once and put into a combination of American and French oak barrels (55% new), with the balance to neutral barrels. The wine was bottled in July 2020.
The Dry Creek Valley is home to some of California’s most definitive Zinfandel. The gently sloping hills, terra rossa soil, and mild climate make it the perfect locale for this varietal. Our 2018 Zinfandel was sourced from the Comstock Vineyard in the heart of Dry Creek Valley.
