2018 Sebastiani Malbec, Alexander Valley
Aromas of berries, pomegranate, cocoa and tobacco carry onto the medium bodied palate. Additional notes of plump dark fruits, mocha and leather linger on the finish.
Our 2018 Malbec is a striking and nearly opaque deep berry color. ough in its prime now, this wine will continue to develop complexity for at least five years.
94% Malbec, 6% Merlot
14 months in Hungarian oak barrels
The 2018 growing season was one of the mildest and smoothest in recent memory. Mild spring weather led to good fruit set in most varietals and moderate weather throughout the year made for ideal growing conditions. There were no major heat spikes, which gave us longer hang-time and great ripening on the vine. While a fairly long harvest, the 2018 crop delivered fruit with complex flavors and was of excellent quality. After harvest, we cold soaked the fruit prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Once complete, the wine was racked off the lees and put into 100% new Hungarian oak barrels for 14 months of aging. 6% Merlot was added to the final blend, adding a touch of softness to the bold Malbec profile.
The Alexander Valley is located north of the town of Healdsburg in Sonoma County. It is one of the warmer AVAs in the region making it the perfect spot for red Bordeaux grapes. The fruit in this 2018 Malbec came from Lyon Vineyards in Cloverdale. These blocks are gravelly, well-drained sites located near the Russian River.
