2018 Roth Smokey Ridge Vineyard Reserve Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley
Our 2018 vintage is a dark purple in the glass and expresses robust aromas of blackberry, white pepper and cassis. The palate is medium bodied with flavors of ripe plum, raspberry and oak spice. Well integrated tannins are balanced by a lively acidity while additional fruit notes linger on the finish.
2018 proved to be a steady and moderate vintage. We had great fruit set and a mild summer allowing the fruit to mature at an ideal pace. The end result was an abundance of high quality fruit with balanced acid, sugar and tannin levels. All of our 2018 wines display great uniformity and outstanding complexity.

Aged 16 months in French, American and Hungarian oak, 60% new
The long days allow for prime ripening of the fruit creating grapes that mature evenly and slowly to gain balance and nice acidity. After harvest, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeast and then racked to French, American and Hungarian oak barrels. After 16 months in barrel (60% new) with regular lees stirring, the wine was bottled.
This Zinfandel hails from the Smokey Ridge Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. This area of Sonoma County has become one of the top Zinfandel growing regions in California. On the cusp of the Russian River Valley, yet within the southern Dry Creek Valley, the Smokey Ridge Vineyard enjoys both cooler, coastal influences and dry, warm inland influences.
