2018 Headturner Flyaway Chardonnay, Horse Heaven Hills
90 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2018 Headturner Horse Heaven Hills Chardonnay has rich aromas of buttered brioche, fresh pineapple and ripe golden delicious apples. These aromatics lead to a beautifully balanced mid-palate with lush flavors of lemon curd and butterscotch. This chardonnay finishes with full-bodied elegance and is sure to be a Headturner.

A mild, wet winter led into a cool, wet spring. With budbreak progressing normally, June brought back the rain. The summer months of July and August warmed up significantly, with daytime temperatures reaching over 100°F but a nice cooling effect in the evenings helped to maintain balance. September revealed ideal conditions leading us to a beautiful harvest.
The Horse Heaven Hills AVA is a winegrowing region bound by the Yakima Valley AVA to the north and the Columbia River to the south. Located in the greater Columbia Valley, soil types in this AVA are silt loam that drain efficiently allowing for precise irrigation management. Destiny Ridge Vineyard faces south perched high on the bluffs overlooking the Columbia River. This vineyards’ proximity to the constant cool river breezes help moderate the hot summer temperatures, allowing for the development of rich flavors in harmony with vibrant acidity.
