2018 Headturner The Nerve Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain
91 Points & Editors' Choice - Wine Enthusiast
Winemaker Notes
The 2018 Headturner Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon displays dense, dark fruit
with aromatics and flavors that echo where it’s grown. Black cherry, blueberry and
umami elements lead to a rustic and terroir driven profile. The flavors are rich and
concentrated with a whisper of powdered earth on the finish. This cabernet sauvignon
with color, deep and inky as salal berries is robust, brawny and sure to turn heads.

Production Notes
A mild, wet winter led into a cool, wet spring. With budbreak progressing normally,
June brought back the rain. The summer months of July and August warmed up
significantly, with daytime temperatures reaching over 100°F but a nice cooling effect
in the evenings helped to maintain balance.
Vineyard Notes
Artz Vineyard is named for Fred Artz, a legendary grape grower on Red Mountain.
Artz helped plant and manage the famed Klipsun Vineyard for more than 20 years
before buying adjacent land and planting his own vineyard. The vineyard is planted on
the lower bench of Red Mountain, overlooking the Yakima River at an elevation of
652’ facing southwest. The predominant soil types of Red Mountain are Warden,
Hezel and Scootenay which are a series of wind-blown loess. This variety of soil
presents a combination of sand, silt and loam which are exceptional for growing grapes.
Artz Vineyard is now owned by the Red Mountain pioneers, the Williams family.
