2018 Banshee Marine Layer Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast
Lovingly dubbed the perfect breakfast wine by us all (hey, if having wine for breakfast is wrong, we don’t want to be right!). This broad, rich chardonnay tickles your nose with aromatics of jasmine and lemon tea with honey. Packed with flavors of lemon zest, honey, jasmine blossoms, brioche and shortbread with a clean, fresh palate and crisp acid.
The 2018 growing season started cooler than in previous years. Despite a longer than normal bloom period, there was great chardonnay set throughout the the Sonoma Coast region. With moderate summer temperatures and few heat spikes, the growing season was long and gradual. This longer hang time gave time for the grapes to develop complex flavors while maintaining great acidity. 2018 was an excellent growing season with moderate yields, bright flavors and nice acidity.
75% Heintz Vyd, Sonoma Coast; 25% Bohemian Vyd, Sonoma Coast
September 24, 2018
16 months in 30% new barrels and 70% used barrels
Hand harvested on September 24, 2018 and sorted before being whole cluster pressed in a bladder press. It then settled for one day before being barreled down in to a mix of new (30%), and used barrels, and finally aging for 16 months. The wine completed both primary and malolactic fermentation in barrel with no lees stirring.
Heintz and BohemianVineyards are only about ½ mile apart as the crow flies, sitting on the same ridge with Bohemian facing the east and Heintz sloping to the west. These decidedly different expressions of the same area work fabulously together in a blend.
