2017 Lancaster Estate Samantha's Sauvignon Blanc, Alexander Valley
The 2017 Samantha’s Sauvignon Blanc reveals an aromatic, floral nose that is characteristic of the Musqué clone and mingles well with mango and stone fruit. The palate is elegant and full with layered texture and rich, vibrant flavors of white peach, pear, mango, passion fruit and delicate floral notes that mimic the fragrant aromas. The bright acidity is balanced by additional creaminess and complexity from the minimal oak influence coupled by a clean minerality that lingers on the smooth finish.
100% Sauvignon Blanc (Musqué clone)
September 8 – September 27, 2017
eight months sur lie in 21% French oak (10% new, 20% neutral)
Fermented in our wine caves using 100% native yeast
Samantha’s Sauvignon Blanc was barrel fermented in our wine caves using 100% native yeast. The wine was then aged eight months sur lie in 21% French oak (10% new, 20% neutral) to add creaminess and aging potential. The balance saw 28% stainless steel, and 49% concrete egg which allows for constant circulation of the juice and imparts minerality and texture to the wine. Our Sauvignon Blanc was then bottled unfiltered in April 2018.
The 2017 growing season began with sufficient rainfall to reinvigorate the vines. A cool spring with moderate temperatures set the stage for a prime bud break. Some heat spikes in the late summer propelled harvest which occurred in mid-September allowing us to bring in the fruit at optimal maturity. The wines from this vintage have great uniformity, concentration and outstanding balance.
