2017 Foley Sonoma Estate Petit Verdot, Alexander Valley
With plenty of exposure to the morning sun on our estate vineyard, this hearty varietal is able to fully ripen up and display dark plum, red currant and ripe blackberry tones. Ripe fruit takes the driver's seat in this wine. All of the rich fruit is complemented by dark chocolate and toffee, and the structure of the wine is rounded out with finely integrated French oak tannins.

Harvest 2017 was an excellent vintage in the Alexander Valley. A relatively cool ripening season in August was followed by a four-day, 115 degree heat spike, which pushed all fruit that was on the fringes of ripeness well into full maturity. Luckily, grape quality was not compromised, and once the fruit arrived, it was fantastic to work with. Although the heat spike was much maligned at the time, all of our fruit, aside from a single block of Cabernet Franc, was in and processed by the time the fires hit at the beginning of October.
Our estate Petit Verdot vineyards are broken into two different blocks delineated by clone and soil type. The West block is planted to clone 2 on SO4 rootstock and our East block is planted to clone 200 on 101-14 rootstock. Both blocks benefit from even sun exposure resulting in rich, multi-layered fruit. After harvest, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and racked to French oak barrels.
