2016 Roth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley
Our 2016 Reserve Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the characteristics of this distinct region- rich, dark berry flavors, supple tannins, and complexity. inky-purple in color, it displays a nose of blackberry jam, violet, sweet oak, and cassis. Velvety tannins and tremendous structure support bold notes of black cherry, dark berries, bittersweet chocolate, and graphite. While pleasurable upon release, this wine will reward those who wait a few years.

Aged 19 months in French oak, 70% new
Three day cold soak and stainless steel fermentation
After a three-day cold soak, we crushed and fermented the grapes in stainless steel tanks. After pressing, each lot was blended or lightly egg-white fined to remove green tannins. A small portion of Syrah was added for balance and aromatics. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was transferred to barrel and stirred weekly until malolactic fermentation was complete. After 19 months of aging in 70% new French oak, the wine was then bottled in July 2018. The 2016 vintage was marked by exceptional quality and concentration in the Alexander Valley. Steady rainfall in the winter helped to replenish the dryer soil from the prior years. Overall, the vintage produced high-quality grapes with balanced acidity. We harvested the fruit in the cool morning hours of September 28 - October 4, 2016.
