2016 Roth Estate Reserve Pinot Gris, Russian River Valley
After the inaugural 2015 vintage, our 2016 Russian River Valley Pinot Gris had a lot to live up to. Hailing from a spectacular vintage and vineyard site, this 2016 dazzles with tropical fruits like pineapple and mango on the nose. The palate is well structured without being overwhelming with flavors of citrus, honeysuckle and melon accented by a nice acidity and lingering finish.

Our Pinot Gris comes from the acclaimed Russian River Valley AVA of Sonoma County with most of the fruit coming from the Chalk Hill AVA. Known for its cool, foggy climate that sweeps in from the Pacific Ocean and its alluvial soils, this river valley is an idyllic site for growing Pinot Gris. After harvest, the grapes were pressed and transferred to tank where they were fermented with native yeast in 100% stainless steel to capture its true varietal characteristics. After several months with regular lees stirring, the wine was bottled. The 2016 vintage in Russian River Valley was marked by high quality fruit and an earlier than average harvest. The fruit was sourced from vineyards in the Chalk Hill and Russian River Valley AVAs. An early start to the growing season was followed by warm temperatures throughout the spring and summer. This resulted in even ripening and balanced flavor development with the fruit coming into the winery on August 19, 2016.
