Guenoc Victorian Claret embodies the sophistication and extravagance of the Victorian era while capturing the essence of our modern, bold and distinct winemaking style. Claret is the traditional English term used to describe the sophisticated red wines from the Bordeaux region of France. This wine honors Lillie Langtry, the exuberant Victorian actress who planted vines in the Guenoc Valley over a century ago and pioneered a long tradition of winemaking in the region. The 2016 growing season was excellent due to dry and consistent weather conditions that allowed for long hang times for the fruit. Warm summer days and cool nights garnered wines of complex tannin structure and bright acidity.
This wine hails from a blend of vineyards at Langtry Estate in the Guenoc Valley and premier growing sites in California’s North Coast. The North Coast AVA encompasses the world-renowned grape growing counties of Napa, Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino, while the 21,349-acre Langtry Estate is one of the largest contiguous private land holdings in California. Soils range from rocky volcanic highlands to mountain valleys lined with gravelly riverbeds. The combination of these unique sites allows us to produce a blend that exemplifies the diversity found in this distinct region.
