2016 Foley Sonoma Fanucchi Ranch Sangiovese, Alexander Valley
Our 2016 Fanucchi Ranch Sangiovese is ripe and approachable. Strawberry, raspberry jam, and light mint aromatics dominate the nose. On the palate, abundant fruit seems to jump out of the glass, credited to a partial carbonic maceration fermentation which highlights the brighter qualities of the Sangiovese. Further, aging in 100% neutral French oak helped add a richer note to the wine, making it the perfect wine to open up soon and enjoy with a fresh summer salad with salmon.

Our Sangiovese is sourced from our neighbors in the Alexander Valley. David Fanucchi planted this block on the hillside below his childhood home, allowing for excellent drainage and sun exposure. This east-west vineyard benefits from even ripening and balanced flavors. Following harvest, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and then racked to French oak barrels. After aging for 11 months with regular lees stirring, the wine was bottled.
2016 was a superb vintage in Alexander Valley. Although yields were slightly lower than in 2015, fruit quality was high across all varietals. Veraison set in early and completed by the end of July - beginning of August, and week of warm temperatures pushed harvest up ahead of schedule. The fruit for this 2016 Sangiovese was harvested on September 9, 2016 and entered the crush pad in optimal condition.
