2016 Foley Sonoma Estate Petit Verdot, Alexander Valley
Our 2016 Estate Petit Verdot comes from two blocks on our estate vineyards. With plenty of exposure throughout the day, this hearty varietal showcases dark plum, cassis and ripe blackberry tones. All of the rich fruit is complemented by dark chocolate and toffee. The structure of the wine is rounded out with finely integrated French oak tannins. Drinking well now, try this wine decanted to see how quickly the fruit profile grows.
95% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
September 1 - October 14, 2016
24 months in French oak
Our estate Petit Verdot vineyards are broken into two different blocks delineated by clone and soil type. The West block is planted to clone 2 on SO4 rootstock and our East block is planted to clone 200 on 101-14 rootstock. Both blocks benefit from even sun exposure resulting in rich, multi-layered fruit. After harvest, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and racked to French oak barrels (25% new).
2016 was a superb vintage in Alexander Valley. Although yields were slightly lower than in 2015, fruit quality was high across all varietals. Veraison set in early and completed by the end of July - beginning of August, and a week of warm temperatures pushed harvest up ahead of schedule. The fruit for this 2016 Petit Verdot was harvested September 1 - October 14, 2016 and entered the crush pad in optimal condition.
