2016 Firestone Vineyard Reserve Proximity Twenty Six Red, Santa Ynez Valley
This ruby colored wine displays aromas of cherries, cola, anise and nutmeg. The palate has notes of cherry, mocha, white pepper and tobacco. The wine's balanced acidity and soft tannins complement each other in a long finish.
One of the factors that makes Proximity 26 so distinct is its unique varietal composition. Our estate produces exceptional Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Consequently, they were married to form this wine. After harvest, the grapes were fermented in small bins using native and cultured yeast strains. Aging took place in American and Hungarian oak barrels for 9 months with 10% being new.

Our 400-acre estate is located beyond the mountains north of the town of Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley. The climate here ranges from cool in the western areas nearer the ocean to warm in the east where the higher ground and coastal hills offer protection from the cold maritime winds. In addition to being 26 miles from the ocean, our vineyards sit nearly 1,000 feet above sea level, putting them well above the morning fog that regularly blankets lower lying sites. The additional hours of sunshine coupled with our extremely long growing season make this an exceptional wine producing region.
