2016 Firestone Vineyard Reserve Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills
Our 2016 Reserve Pinot Noir comes from young vines comprised of clones 828, 2a and 23 which are known for their small clusters and high flavor concentration. Aromas of red cherry, plum and earth are complemented by subtle hints of vanilla and spice. The palate shows ripe fruit flavors of cherry, raspberry and cranberry with a hint of black tea. The flavors are neatly tied up by a balanced acidity and barrel spice on the lingering finish.

The 2016 vintage produced exceptional quality fruit in the Sta. Rita Hills. After plenty of winter rain, an abnormal heat spell in the beginning of February started the growing season earlier than usual. Cooler temperatures in March prolonged set but the vine canopy growth was very strong, and warm weather in early August led to a compact harvest. The fruit for our Reserve Pinot Noir was harvested in the cool morning hours to ensure cold fruit at pressing.
Located in California’s central coast region of Santa Barbara County, the Sta. Rita Hills AVA offers an ideal environment for growing cool-climate varietals. Foggy conditions and steady Pacific breezes combined with nutrient-poor soil make the AVA one of the world’s premier Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producing regions. Wines from this area are renown for their intense flavors, firm structure and ability to pair with a wide variety of cuisine.
