2015 Nieto Senetiner Don Nicanor Barrel Select Malbec, Mendoza
92 Points - James Suckling
Deep red colour with violet hints. Attractive red fruit aromas of raspberries, red currants and blackberries. Floral notes such as violets, some minerality and spices are shown. In the mouth the wine is well-structured, with moderate acidity and a long, pleasant finish.
12 months; French oak barrels, 1-2 year old
This wine was conceived as a tribute to the mentor of Bodegas Nieto Senetiner, who set our path with his vision, talent, and dedication. Our Don Nicanor wines are a step up in sophistication, with greater complexity from select barrel blending and additional oak aging.
Mendoza is an exceptional land with more than 320 sunny days, fresh nights, and soft breezes that gently touch the vineyards. Our estate vineyards are located in Luján de Cuyo, at the foot of the Andes Mountains, and provide our wines with unique characteristics achieved from the best combination altitude, climate, and soil. Our Don Nicanor Barrel Select Malbec is sourced from Mendoza’s Uco Valley. The vines are grown in sandy loam with great drainage and low content in organic material. From 60cm onwards, the soil is a mixture of stones (called “canto rodado”), sand, lime and clay.
