2015 Foley Sonoma Estate Chardonnay, Alexander Valley
Our 2015 Estate Chardonnay boasts concentrated aromas and flavors of golden apple, brioche and vanilla cream. These flavors are then enhanced by a full-body and bright acidity to round out the palate. Its noteworthy minerality on the long finish lends complexity and finesse to this otherwise lush wine.
11 months in French oak, 40% new
2015 was another warm year with one of our earliest harvests to date. Yields were lower than the past few growing seasons, but the quality of fruit was exceptional with concentrated flavors and balanced acidity due to consistently warm temperatures throughout the season. The grapes for our 2015 Estate Chardonnay were harvested in the cool morning hours of August 27, 2015. After harvest, the fruit was fermented in French oak barrels (40% new) and aged for 11 months. Regular lees stirring after fermentation enhanced the concentration and complexity of the flavors and aromatics.
The vineyards of Foley Sonoma lie at the heart of our estate in the Alexander Valley. Our Chardonnay vines are planted in rich soil that supports the Dijon and Robert Young clones. A small portion of the fruit came from our sister property, Chalk Hill Estate, offering minerality and higher acidity thanks to the cool climate of the region.
