2015 Foley Sonoma Courtney's Cuvée, Alexander Valley
Selected from my favorite barrels of three varietal lots, the Courtney’s Cuvée is an excellent expression of our estate vineyards. Lush plum and powdered dark chocolate dominates the aroma. The palate remains rich and round, with plenty of silky tannins and elegant acidity which helps to balance out some of the riper fruit qualities. The drought-stricken conditions of 2015 are apparent, with concentrated fruit and bigger tannic structure. Chock full of Alexander Valley structure, I recommend decanting the Cuvée before enjoying, or laying it down for 3-5 years and enjoying it later in its graceful aging process.
80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Tannat, 8% Cabernet Franc
22 months in French oak, 40% new
The labels on our Winemaker Series illustrate and honor each vineyard. Fruit for our 2015 Courtney’s Cuvée came from our estate vineyards in the Alexander Valley. These vineyards lie at the valley floor, planted on predominantly clay soils. Our Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon, comprising most of the blend, is oriented East-West and enjoys wonderful, unencumbered sunshine throughout the growing season. Our famed Tannat and elegant Cab Franc make up the final blend. Each barrel for this blend was hand selected based on aromatics, varietal intensity and balance.
The Foley Sonoma Winemaker Series includes wines hand crafted and selected by winemaker, Courtney Foley. Each wine in the series embodies a distinct representation of terroir which is illustrated by the hand painted watercolors depicted on our labels. This Cuvée comes from our estate vineyards on the Foley Sonoma property. The watercolor artwork on our label illustrates the special sense of place of this Alexander Valley vineyard.
