2015 Banshee Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast
Lemon and tangerine zest shoot from the glass upon pouring. While there are certainly lush tropical fruit flavors, the overall impression on the mouth is that of energy. Meyer lemon curd, lime, kumquat, pea shoot, and almond produce a mouthwatering impression intermingled with a deep sense of minerals and even a touch of saline on the finish. This wine should age extremely well based on its stuffing and overall balance. Try a bottle now, but make sure to hold some over the next 10 or even 20 years.

It was apparent from the start that 2015 would be an epic vintage for Heintz. While the trademark fruit intensity is there, it is almost subsumed by a bright acidity that falls in the electric category. Yields were painfully low in 2015, but the quality of the resulting wines were definitely worth the sacrifice in quantity. Hand harvested and sorted before being whole cluster pressed. The juice was settled for 18 hours before being barreled down. Primary fermentation completed over 67 days and then completed partial malolactic fermentation over the following 52 days. No lees stirring during the elevage.
Charles Heintz Vineyard is located just outside of the town of Occidental where Charlie's family has farmed the land for over 100 years. Two ridges in, and only about 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean, Heintz has become one of the most famous Chardonnay sites in California.
