2014 Sebastiani Viognier, Russian River Valley
This 2014 Viognier is medium gold in color. While showing a lot of the classic Viognier aromas of white flower and nectarine it also has notes of lemon meringue and almond paste. Rich in texture, the palate displays hints of citrus oil and passion fruit, with ripe nectarine fruit character and minerality on the finish. This is truly a refreshing and delicious wine! - Mark R. Russian River Valley
6 months in 100% neutral French oak
2014 was a fantastic vintage producing high quality fruit. Overall the weather was nearly ideal: warmer weather created a wine with riper fruit and conditions allowed the grapes to have a lot of acidity. This helped to reach our goal to produce a crisper, fresher style. We picked all grapes by September 10, 2014 under clear night skies. We harvested all of the grapes at nighttime to ensure cold fruit at the time of pressing. Harvesting took place on September 10th, 2014. To maintain freshness and preserve the distinct characteristics of the grapes, we minimized exposure to the air. The Viognier was tank fermented and then put into Neutral white French oak barrels for six months.
Known for its cool, foggy climate and rocky, volcanic soils, the Russian River Valley produces an extraordinary range of Burgundian varietals. The Viognier comes from the northeastern corner of the Russian River Valley, the Chalk Hill AVA. The complexity of the terroir, diverse climates and soils provide a bit of grassiness and great fruit concentration to the wine.
