2014 Roth Reserve Smokey Ridge Vineyard Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley
Our Smokey Ridge Vineyard Zinfandel is a unique expression of the famed Dry Creek Valley growing region. The name alludes to the morning fog that covers the vineyard site. This 2014 Zinfandel has intense aromas and flavors of blueberry, cranberry and raspberry jam with a touch of tobacco and spice box. Its soft, round tannins frame a sophistocated finish of bold dark fruit notes.

Aged 18 months in French and American oak, 30% new
This Zinfandel hails from the Smokey Ridge Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. This area of Sonoma County has become one of the top Zinfandel growing regions in California. On the cusp of the Russian River Valley, yet within the southern Dry Creek Valley, the Smokey Ridge Vineyard enjoys both cooler, coastal influences and dry, warm inland influences. The long days allow for prime ripening of the fruit creating grapes that mature evenly and slowly to gain balance and nice acidity. After harvest, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeast and then racked to French and American oak barrels. After 18 months in barrel (30% new) with regular lees stirring, the wine was bottled.
The 2014 vintage in Dry Creek Valley was excellent. We had a relatively early start to the growing season, but moderate temperatures and consistently dry, warm days throughout the winter and spring resulted in ideal ripening of the fruit. Overall, the vintage produced grapes of high quality and balanced acidity. The grapes were harvested in the cool morning hours of August 27, 2014.
