2014 Roth Rancho Santa Rosa Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills
Our 2014 Rancho Santa Rosa Chardonnay displays voluptuous aromas of citrus blossom and bright fruit as this wine opens in the glass. On the palate, its fruit-forward flavors of pear, apple, lime and apricot mingle delightfully with wet stone and chalk. The rich and bright flavors are balanced by a bold minerality and lively acidity which highlight the lingering finish.
Sta. Rita Hills
August 23rd - October 16th, 2014.
Aged 15 months in French and American oak, 40% new
2014 was an abundant vintage in the Sta. Rita Hills. A warm spring led to an earlier than normal bud break. Ideal conditions from bloom to set led to yields high in quantity and quality. The grape clusters in this vintage had a larger than average berry size that achieved optimal ripeness within a shortened time frame. The grapes for this vintage were harvested from August 23rd - October 16th, 2014. After harvest, the grapes were whole-cluster pressed and transferred to tank for fermentation with native yeast. The wine was then racked to French and American oak barrels. After 15 months in barrel (40% new) with regular lees stirring, the wine was bottled.
The Sta. Rita Hills AVA is located in Santa Barbara County and is characterized by its cool climate, influenced by the fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean, and its marine-based soils. This makes the region well-suited for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard lies within this premier AVA and features hilly vineyards that climb from 500 to 1,000 feet above sea level.
