2014 Kuleto Lone Acre Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
We in the Napa Valley have an embarrassment of riches from a string of exceptional vintages in recent years. Starting in 2012 and continuing through 2015, each has provided near ideal conditions resulting in perfectly ripened fruit. None, however, stands out in our memory like the 2014. For sheer volume of aroma and flavor in every variety we grow on the estate, 2014 is extraordinary. The 2014 Lone Acre showcases stone fruit flavors as opposed to a bramble fruit; this is a side of Cabernet that is not typically found in the Napa Valley. Red plums and red apple skins initially come to mind. These aromas are balanced with a smoky woodiness that evokes a cold campfire pit. The mouth is quiet and beautiful with super-soft tannins which coat the mouth. A graceful acidity ensures a lengthy palate and some insurance for those who like to age Cabernet. This seamless complexity is what our Lone Acre Cabernet is all about.
94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Syrah and 2% Merlot
26 months French oak, 33% new oak
Wine lots and barrels selected for our Lone Acre Cabernet Sauvignon don’t necessarily come from a particular spot on the estate (à la Vineyard Designate), but rather share common flavor and structural attributes that highlight the strongest varietal characteristics of Cabernet. Our goal is to create a wine that is a balance of Old and New World in impression, i.e. the fruit is deemphasized in the aroma, but the mouth is rich and flavorful without being too heavy.
