2014 Foley Sonoma Estate Patty's Patch Zinfandel, Alexander Vly
Our 2014 Patty’s Patch Zinfandel is sure to grip your palate! It shines with bright red fruit and beautiful bramble-blueberry flavors. Wonderful aromas of forest floor and minty sage offer a wonderful introduction on the nose. These fragrant notes lead into dark chocolate, blackberry jam, and raspberry on the palate and continue to develop in your glass. Decant and enjoy now or allow to age over the next 5-7 years.
Food Pairing Notes
Enjoy this Zinfandel alongside grilled venison with roasted Matsutake mushrooms. "As the new Master Sommelier at Foley Sonoma, I am pleased to share this wonderful pairing that I hope you will enjoy with friends and family over the holidays. This Zinfandel’s flavors of bright raspberry, wild strawberry, dark berry and rich notes of baking spices from the oak lends to one of my favorite holiday dishes: Grilled Venison with Roasted Matsutake Mushrooms. The bright berry notes meld together beautifully with cigar box on the palate to balance with the dense flavors of the venison and the organic tones of the wild mushroom. Enjoy!" - Robert Smith, Master Sommelier
21 months in French oak; 40% new
The vineyards of Foley Sonoma lie at the heart of our estate in the Alexander Valley. Patty’s Patch Zinfandel hails from our estate, head-pruned Zinfandel vines that were planted in 2000. Following harvest, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and then racked to French oak barrels. After aging for 21 months in barrel (40% new) with regular lees stirring, the wine was bottled.
2014 was another early and warm vintage. This resulted in prime flavor development of the fruit to display its finest attributes. Overall, the vintage produced grapes of high quality, dense flavors, and balanced acidity. The grapes were harvested September 14-19, 2014 at optimum ripeness.
