2014 Foley Sonoma Estate Malbec, Alexander Valley
Our 2014 Estate Malbec is composed of fruit from our estate vineyards in the Alexander Valley. A vibrant ruby to purple hue leads into swarming aromas of sweet dark fruit and vanilla from the French oak aging. The palate is bright with ripe currants and raspberry laced with notes of cocoa powder and finishes with silky, lingering tannins.
24 months in French oak, 30% new
2014 was another early and warm vintage. This resulted in prime flavor development of the fruit to display its finest attributes. Overall, the vintage produced grapes of high quality, dense flavors, and balanced acidity. The grapes were harvested from October 12-13 at optimum ripeness.
Making up just ¾ of an acre on our estate vineyards, our Estate Malbec yields bright and delicate fruit. This small but mighty block is trellised (as opposed to head trained) and among the last to be picked on our estate. After harvest, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and then racked to French oak barrels. After aging for 24 months in barrel (30% new), the wine was bottled in November 2016.
