2014 Firestone Vineyard Merlot, Santa Ynez Valley
The fruit for this Merlot comes from several vineyard blocks on our estate, each with a unique soil structure, trellising style and microclimate. It is this diversity that allows us to create such an exceptional final wine. Garnet in color, aromas of ripe dark plum and cherry lead into the palate of raspberry, clove and nutmeg. A hint of vanilla and cocoa mingle pleasantly with structured tannins on the long finish.

2014 produced fruit of high quality and quantity. An earlier that average bud break began in the last week of February, and a warm spring led to an early bloom and fruit set. Few incidents of frost and a warmer than average summer allowed the grapes to ripen at an optimal pace. We harvested the fruit from August 25 – October 15, 2014.
The Santa Ynez Valley is located just two hours north of Los Angeles and five hours south of San Francisco, adjacent the cold Pacific Ocean. With the greatest concentration of wineries in Santa Barbara County - roughly 18% of its total land planted to vineyards - it is among the favorite weekend destinations for wine aficionados in the Central Coast region.
