2014 Banshee Thorne Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast (1.5L Magnum)
High tones of wild blackberry, pomegranate & sage. Generally, our wines from this vintage have a specific tautness that we believe bodes well for a long life.
Within the east slope are six distinct blocks on Goldridge soils. We choose a bit from each of the blocks to build the most complexity. From these blocks we harvest a variety of clonal material (777, 667, Pommard, 115) and grapes from fairly different elevations that are generally picked separately. This allows us to really dial this wine in. The 2014 growing season was another drought stricken and early harvest year, producing berries that were relatively thick skinned, small and intensely structural. Generally, our wines from this vintage have a specific tautness that we believe bodes well for a long life.
Thorn Ridge Vineyard is owned and farmed by legendary Sonoma grower Ted Klopp. It is located in the Sebastopol Hills sub-region of the Sonoma Coast AVA and not far from where we planted our own vineyard in the Spring of 2016. The vineyard is bisected by a ridge top that creates two distinct aspects, one west and the other east facing. We harvest exclusively from the much cooler east-facing slope that looks out on the Santa Rosa basin, while the entire west slope goes to Kosta Browne.
