2013 Firestone Vineyard Proximity Twenty Six Red, Santa Ynez Valley
From its deep, dark color to its rich, concentrated mouth, this 2013 Proximity Red is a showstopper of a wine. Aromas of blackberry and black cherry lead into a sophisticated palate of leather, cedar, vanilla, and baking spices. Its impressive tannin-acid structure is followed by a soft, elegant finish.

Santa Ynez Valley
24 months in French oak, 89% new
One of the factors that makes Proximity 26 so distinct is its unique varietal composition. Our estate produces exceptional Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Consequently, they formed the base of this wine. Small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Malbec were included to supplement depth, structure and complexity. After harvest, the grapes were fermented in small bins using native and cultured yeast strains. Aging took place in 89% new French oak barrels for the 24 months. The balance was aged in 2-year French oak to add a brightness and softness to the final blend.
Our 400-acre estate is located beyond the mountains north of the town of Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley. The climate here ranges from cool in the western areas nearer the ocean to warm in the east where the higher ground and coastal hills offer protection from the cold maritime winds. In addition to being 26 miles from the ocean, our vineyards sit nearly 1,000 feet above sea level, putting them well above the morning fog that regularly blankets lower lying sites. The additional hours of sunshine coupled with our extremely long growing season make this an exceptional wine producing region.
