2012 Kuleto Estate The Point Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
93 Points - Tasting Panel Magazine
Be forewarned – the 2012 “The Point” Cabernet Sauvignon is not for the faint of heart. Many of our wines give a nod to the Old World in flavor and in style, but this wine is unabashedly Californian. For those of you who believe bigger is better, this is definitely the wine for you. It is HUGE in every sense of the word. Huge wild and grapey aromas pumped out by huge alcohol. Huge sweet-spicy and tarry flavors (think fruit-covered asphalt on a hot summer day). Huge melted tannins that go on and on in the mouth. But ‘huge’ does not have to mean out of balance. This is not like the short person pumped up on steroids (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but rather like the Amazonian god or goddess!
94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Syrah (from a single Cab-Syrah co-fermented lot)
27 months in 33% new oak; 67% French, 33% American
Wine lots and barrels selected for “The Point” Cabernet Sauvignon don’t necessarily come from a particular spot on the Kuleto Estate Vineyard, but rather share common flavor and structural attributes that highlight explosive fruit, spicy wood, and mouth-filling tannins. Most of you have visited the winery and taken the walk out to look over the Napa Valley from our promontory. The heady aromatics and sun-drenched fruit flavors of “The Point” are inspired by this lofty view.
