Our 2010 Alexander Valley Merlot offers a dark crimson color and juicy aromas of currants, black cherries, oak and dried leaves. The palate is lush and concentrated with overtones of chocolate, raspberry and blackberry. The finish is soft and fruity with an intriguing earthy/forest floor note. Winemaker Notes
After a three-day cold soak, we crushed and fermented the grapes at relatively warm temperatures in stainless steel tanks. After pressing, each lot was blended or egg-white fined depending on flavor, color and tannin concentration. The wine was aged for a little over nine months in French, Hungarian and American oak barrels.

Production Notes
Cool and mild weather in 2010 delayed the ripening process for all of our Bordeaux varieties. Fortunately, the fruit was harvested before the late-season rains. In the end, the cool conditions and long season yielded dark, elegant, lower-tannin wines that display ripe – but not over-ripe – aromatics and flavors. Vineyard Notes
The Alexander Valley is located north of the town of Healdsburg in Sonoma County. It is one of the warmer AVAs in the region making it the perfect spot for red Bordeaux grapes. Most of the fruit for our 2010 (82%) came from the Lyon Vineyard in Cloverdale. It also includes Cabernet Sauvignon (12%) from Hamel and Bedrock, and Petit Verdot (6%) from Rancho Miguel. All of these sites feature well-draining, alluvial soils.
