2009 Langtry Petite Sirah Port, Serpentine Meadow Vineyard, Guenoc Valley AVA (375ml)
Petite Sirah is a fantastic variety to produce Guenoc Port wine. This 2009 Serpentine Meadow shows why; aged for over four years in French oak barrels, the wine shows a mix of classic Tawny and Ruby Port character. The vanilla, nutmeg and spiced fruit on the nose accompanies the smooth and refined tannins and intense cherry and blueberry flavors in the mouth.
Food Pairing Notes
The wine would be paired perfectly with dark chocolate dipped strawberries and cherries. The Guenoc 2009 Port is quite a treat in itself, but I like to serve it with an after dinner blue cheese plate.
100% Petite SIrah
55 months in 30% new American oak
This five acre block takes its name from solidified magma, high in magnesium content, fractured to form the devigorating soils found here. Long a source of remarkable Petite Sirah, this moderately dense planting creates small vines, clusters and berries that are deeply hued and offer lovely blackberry flavors, unusually polished tannins and exquisite balance.
