The 2009 Altvs is opaque and highly aromatic with notes of dark fruit, leather, spice and licorice.

The 2009 Altvs is opaque and highly aromatic with notes of dark fruit, leather, spice and licorice. The palate features all of the above plus cocoa, berries and graham crackers. The tannins are present, but integrated. This is bold wine with well-integrated tannins and great aging potential. — Camille Benitah, Winemaker
Ratings
94 Points94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"When it comes to sheer deliciousness, this wine nails it. Comprised of 99% Cabernet Sauvignon, with just a drop of Petit Verdot, it offers wave after heady wave of black currants and blackberry jam. What truly distinguishes the wine is the overall balance. The tannins are beautiful, the acidity fine and the oak perfectly integrated." —S.H.

92 Points92 Points - Wine & Spirits
"...this wine is made at Merus in St. Helena from vineyards as far south as Coombsville. The varied vineyard sources create detail in the flavor, from cool scents of sour cherry and rose petal jam to warmer white pepper, plum and chocolate. It’s generous and clean, a fine Napa Valley cabernet to serve with braised lamb shoulder."

93 Points93 Points - The Tasting Panel
"Smooth and silky with elegant plum and blackberry fruit; supple and juicy with notes of mocha. spice and lovely depth; complex and seamless with lovely style and balance."
Winemaker Notes
Founded in 2005, Altvs produces small quantities of handmade Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. We source fruit from a handful of serious growers with hillside and benchland vineyards up and down Napa Valley. Our style emphasizes balance, fruit purity and intensity.

Production Notes
Throughout the spring and summer months of 2009 we experienced relatively mild weather. A heavy rainstorm in October caused some concern, but fortunately the Cabernet clusters were loosely packed and once the rain cleared, we were able to harvest a healthy crop of clean fruit. Since there were no real heat spikes during the growing season, the grapes possessed phenolic maturity and ripeness without excessive sugar. 2006 cases were produced.
